A beginners guide to palmistry and how you can start reading palms

Palmistry is the art of reading palms and has been practiced all over the world for many thousands of years. Palm readers believe you can tell a lot about somebody just by studying the palm of their hands, giving a deeper understanding of someone’s character, and even an insight into their future.

Palm reading takes some practice, but it’s very easy to get started! Want to give it a try? Follow these steps…

Before You Start

Before you get started on the reading, here are a few pointers for you to remember:

– If a line is not prominent, this may suggest an area of life that needs work

– Deeper lines suggest that the area of life or characteristic being referred to by this line is strong

– If you’re struggling to make out a line, hold your hand under a bright light. If you cup your hand slightly, this will make the lines more prominent and easier to read

Choose a Hand

First of all, choose a hand! The hand you read is important, to gain insight into your career, professional life and goals, choose the dominant hand. For insight into relationships and any emotional problems, choose the other hand.

The Heart Line

The heart line gives perspective on somebody’s emotions and love life. This line sits horizontally on our palm and you can find it at the upper half of our hand, closest to the fingers.

You should consider both where the line begins, and the size and shape of the line, as well as any breaks in the line.

Long & Straight Heart Lines suggest you’re a balanced, sensible, rational person who is always considerate of the feelings of others.

Short & Straight Heart Lines suggest you’re somebody who is happier expressing feelings through actions, rather than using words. You are somebody who enjoys your freedom, and sometimes show less interest in romance.

Long & Curved Heart Lines suggests you are a passionate and driven person, who freely expresses emotions and feelings

Short & Curved Heart Lines suggests you are a shy, reserved person who socialises better one on one rather than in large groups

Where does your heart line begin?

Below the index finger – you are content with your love life, whether you are in a relationship or single.

Below the middle finger – you can be selfish in relationships, this is something you should be aware of to work on

In the middle – when it comes to love, you fall fast!

If your heart line has breaks in it, or has small lines crossing through the heart line, this suggests emotional traumas in your life.

The Head Line

The head line is found below the heart line and gives insight into the intellect of a person, as well as their learning style and creativity.

A curved head line suggests you are a creative thinker, your strengths lie in art and using your imagination, rather than more academic subjects such as Science.

A straight head line suggests you are practical, realistic and your strengths lie in more academic roles, rather than the arts.

Next, examine how long or short the head line is.

A short head line suggests you prefer physical achievements over mental achievements. You are a fast thinker who can make decisions quickly.

A long head line suggest you are focused and think clearly, but often analyse things too deeply, making it difficult to come to a decision.

If your head line has breaks, this can mean you can often be inconsistent in your thoughts. One cross in your head line can equal emotional crisis, multiple crosses equals momentous decisions.

The Life Line

This is the third line you will see on your palm. The life line should begin close to your thumb, and end towards your wrist. This line can help to interpret what type of person you are, and how you cope with stress and trauma. The life line will also give insight on general wellbeing and physical health. Contrary to popular belief, the length of your life line is not associated with length of life!

A long life line that curves from your thumb to your wrist suggests you are often the rock during difficult situations, people rely on you for help and support when the going gets tough.

A short life line that ends in the middle of your hand suggests that you are someone who prefers to keep busy in difficult situations in order to cope. You and your decisions can sometimes be manipulated by others.

If your life line is quite faint, this suggests you are somebody who should take some time to relax and enjoy some downtime more regularly.

Breaks in a life line suggests a traumatic experience or a sudden change in life

The Fate Line

The fate line intersects the other three lines on your palm, starting at the base of the palm, and gives insight on how much, or how easily a person is influenced by external factors or circumstances that are out of their control.

A deep fate line suggests you are somebody who is strongly controlled by fate

A broken life line suggests your life is prone to changes from external factors

Starts close to/joined to the life line suggest you are an aspirational, self-made person
