The History of the Tarot
The Tarot has been used
throughout the world as an aid to divination for centuries. No one knows
the true origin of the Tarot.
It is, however, generally accepted that the first deck appeared in Germany around 1325. The oldest preserved deck was produced for the Visconti-Storca family in Milan in 1450.
The in-depth imagery and magical symbology of the decks have been linked to the occult, ancient Egypt, the Knights Templar, the Cabbala (an ancient Jewish practice of mysticism and magic), Greek alchemists, Gypsy, Celtic, French, German and Italian heritage.
The Tarot is also closely connected to the Zodiac, the solar system, the energies and power of the Sun and the Moon, and astrological divination. There are many different Tarot decks, every one a work of art. Each deck contains 78 cards; 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. The word Arcana in Latin means secrets or mysteries.
The Tarot is a universal language. The symbolic images cross all boundaries and cultures. The wealth of imagery, magical and mystical symbology depicted in each deck allows one to heighten ones psychic intuition and in this manner to find answers in everyday life.
