Navigating our way through life can be a challenging journey. We’re faced with so many decisions on a daily basis and it can be difficult to decide which path to take. Our heads may tell us to go down one route while our hearts tell us to go down another. Finding the balance between the two can feel almost impossible.
On the one hand you may feel the need to be sensible and abide by convention but, on the other hand, you might also have that little niggling feeling that urges you to take risks and break the rules.
Often, our intuition blesses us with moments of pure clarity. It encourages us to make a particular decision which ends up bringing us joy and happiness for years to come. Whether you intuition tells you to put an offer on a house that no one else wants or it tells you to date someone who is not your usual type, sometimes we do things that just feel ‘right’ despite everything we’ve learnt so far.
There’s just one problem – sometimes our intuition may not be as loud as we need it to be and we can be left fending for ourselves without the help of our ‘sixth sense’. Here are just a few tips to help you tap into your intuition and make the most promising decision:
Step away from the situation
Isn’t it strange how you can have an argument with a loved one in the evening and yet when you wake up in the morning you feel nothing but love for them? There has probably been times in your life where you’re making breakfast and wondering why you felt the need to fall out in the first place. All of a sudden the cause of your disagreement seems so trivial and pointless. Thanks to sleep, you remember how much the person means to you and how silly it is to fight.
Sleep is a powerful healer that often blesses us with new found perspective and an ability to think objectively. It enables us to clear our minds and start afresh with a more positive and open outlook. So, if you want to tap into your intuition and make a difficult decision, take a break.
If sleeping isn’t an option, just step away from the situation and do something different. Do some exercise. Sit by the window and daydream. Meditate. Do whatever it takes to clear your mind and calm yourself. By letting your mind wander you can increase the likelihood you’ll listen to your intuitive voice.
It’s often said that honesty is the best policy and this is certainly the case when trying to tap into your intuition.
First thing’s first, don’t ignore the facts. Although you’re ultimately going to let your intuition do the talking, the facts are going to guide you there. By feeding your mind and body with as much relevant information as possible, your intuition can get to work.
Take out a pen and a piece of paper and write down everything you know for certain. Write down the pros and cons of the paths that lie before you. At this point, don’t let your heart get in the way – you’ll need that later. Instead, be honest and as objective as possible. Think of your most sensible and logical friend and imagine what they’d say in this situation.
Once you’ve got the facts to hand and have taken time to really think about how they impact you, it’s time to listen to your heart. What do you want to do? What do you think would be the best solution for your future? What would make you happiest?
Don’t sacrifice long term happiness for short term gain
Sometimes we’re presented with opportunities that, although they’ll make us happy today or tomorrow, they’ll make us unhappy in the future. We sacrifice long term happiness for short term gain.
From our careers and finances to our health and relationships, this attitude can affect so many areas of our lives. Although it’s important to pay attention to the facts, sometimes there’s something inside you that urges you not to do something.
Of course, you cannot know for sure how life will turn out unless you take the leap but sometimes it’s worth listening to your gut feeling and doing as it says. We might have to wait longer for what we want, but often we’ll get to a much better place in the long run.
