What is the meaning of life? It’s a question that’s troubled humans for centuries, leaving many of us scratching our heads and wondering why we’re all here. Even the brightest people in the world don’t know for sure and so the meaning of life is completely open to interpretation. Some people might be here to pursue a particular career or adventure while others may have been placed on earth to help others. Struggling to determine your purpose in life? Here are a few questions to ask yourself.
1. How are you going to save the world?
Many of us dream of being superheroes with the ability to fly through the sky, teleport to beautiful countries, or make ourselves invisible. Although these popular superhero powers may be out of our reach, there are plenty of other ways we can save the world.
The best thing about saving the world is that you don’t have to be a genius to do your bit. You just have to identify your own special talent and use it for good!
Are you a great writer? Start a blog and write articles that will change people’s lives for the better.
Are you a talented artist? Paint pictures inspired by causes that matter to you.
Do you love to take care of people? Find a career that lets you care for others and make real changes to people’s lives.
Perhaps you’re great with children? Put your all into raising your own or get a job in childcare. By having an impact on the lives of children, you can inspire future generations to go off and change the world too!
2. What makes you forget to eat?
Have you ever been so wrapped up in something that you completely forgot to do ordinary human tasks like eating or sleeping? This could be a sign that you’ve found your one true calling.
If you haven’t found that special something that keeps your eyes open and your stomach growling, it’s your job to go out and find it! Take up a new hobby, learn a new skill, join a club. Your true calling could be anything from a particular sport to a talent such as speaking a second language.
Found your ‘thing’? Great! Now do yourself a favour and eat a good meal. You’ll need your fuel.
3. If you only had a year left to live, what would you do?
When looking for our life’s purpose, it makes sense to think ahead and plan for the long term. After all, most of our dreams won’t materialise overnight and we need to work hard for many years before we see a return on our investment. However, if you knew you wouldn’t live long enough to achieve your long term goals, what would you want to do?
If you only had a year left to live, would your dreams change? Would you travel as much as possible? Spend all your time with your family? Use your last year to raise money for charity?
As important as it is to think ahead, it’s just as important to find short term goals and things we can achieve quickly. Sometimes, thinking about the fragility of life can help us discover our true purpose. It helps us figure out what really matters.
