Tarot isn’t the only way to get a psychic reading. In fact, there are plenty of alternatives to try! Here are just a few that we recommend here at Wishing Moon.
What Are Runes?
Runes are a form of divination reading that can help people gain useful insight into specific situations or shed light onto specific questions. Typically runes are made of stone and each have a symbol from the runic alphabet carved into them. However, they can be made from practically anything.
What Can We Use Runes For?
Runes can help us work through problems by showing us what’s likely to happen. Runes are not fortune-telling tools and they do not give direct answers or specific pieces of advice. Rather, they hint towards certain answers but leave you to work out the details for yourself. Runes can provide a variety of outcomes and can show you how your behaviour could impact on an event. The great thing about using runes is that it forces you to confront the idea that our futures are not fixed, and that we have the power to make our own decisions and forge our own path. Runes are good to use when you want to see a clearer picture or get more of an idea about a certain scenario.
How Do Runes Work?
Your subconscious plays a huge part in runes. This is because when you ask a question or ponder an issue, the runes you cast are not completely random. They’re choices that have been created by the coupling of your conscious and unconscious mind being focused together.
Using Rune Cards
If you find runes a little too archaic then Ralph Blum has created Rune Cards which can be used in a similar way to tarot cards. The cards contain visual metaphors of the meanings of each rune with a keyword meaning that you can use to get the answers you seek.
What Are Oracle Cards?
Oracle cards are similar to tarot but differ greatly in that there are no rules to be followed. They are more modern than tarot cards but can still be used to gain insight, clarity and inspiration. Each deck tells a different story and you might find that one deck doesn’t resonate with you – it’s all about finding the right deck for you. Once you do, oracle cards can be a fun, free-form way of getting guidance.
What Can We Use Oracle Cards For?
Oracle Cards can be used to answer questions, get guidance, check you’re on the right path, for inspiration and for clarity. Basically, anything you would use tarot cards for. People like oracle cards because of the freedom and room for interpretation you have compared to the strict rules of tarot.
How Do Oracle Cards Work?
Both the imagery and the words on oracle cards are important and both should be taken into consideration when performing your reading. You can pick as many or as few cards as you like during your reading, remember there are no rules in oracle cards, to get the answers you’re looking for. You can even write down notes as you draw cards and use a stream of consciousness to get the help you want. Oracle cards are all about how you feel. Just go with the flow.
What Are Psycards?
Psycards are another alternative to the tarot. This set of cards is inspired by Carl Jung’s psychotherapy work. Whilst it does share some similarities with the major arcana in tarot, it has some extra cards. Psycards contain 40 cards that are divided up into special groupings as follows: Happenings, Direction, Fundamentals, Characters, Archetypes and Symbols. The thinking behind the cards is that symbols have the power to bridge the conscious and the unconscious.
What Can We Use Psycards For?
If you have an internal struggle within yourself or a persistent question that has been bothering you for a while, you can use Psycards to get some guidance or some answers. Psycards are good for getting the root of your inner psyche and discovering what’s really going on. And rather than solely being used to get answers or fix problems, psycards can be used for self improvement and growth.
How Do Psycards Work?
You can use psycards however you want and they work much the same as tarot. Some people like to ask a direct question before picking a card and analysing the information on it. This works well when there’s something eating you up inside that you really need answers too. However, if you just want guidance, you can do a more thorough draw. You shuffle the cards, and draw 7 cards in three layers. The top level shows you what you should be aspiring to, the middle level shows you your past, present and future and the bottom level shows you your unconscious forces that are driving you. You can then apply the cards to the guidance you seek.
