The seven chakras are the energy centres and host to the spiritual powers in our body. Our energy flows through these centres, meaning if one of the chakras becomes blocked, our energy can no longer flow freely through the body. This often results in problems with our health, both physically and mentally. If you’ve noticed a change in your physical or mental well-being, it’s a good idea to consider your chakras, and work towards balancing or unblocking the affected chakra.
The Root Chakra
The root chakra is at the base of the spine, in the area around our tailbone. It signifies our feelings of trust, being grounded and any emotional issues. Blocks in the root chakra can lead to feelings of anxiety, insecurity and fear. To unblock your root chakra, try to face what is causing you fear and deal with any issues in your life that are troubling you. Walking barefoot and eating plenty of root vegetables can also help you to feel more grounded.
The Sacral Chakra
The sacral chakra is located at the lower abdomen and represents our general wellbeing and emotions, as well as our sexuality, feelings of pleasure and libido. Signs of a blocked sacral chakra include feelings of guilt, lack of emotions and decreased libido or sexual satisfaction. Exercises such as pelvic thrusts and the Cobra yoga pose can help to balance this chakra, as well as eating orange foods such as oranges. Also try to look closely at what is bothering you and work to fix these issues, if an issue cannot be fixed then you must try and learn to relax. Take a walk amongst nature and surround yourself with beauty, do more of what you enjoy!
The Solar Plexus Chakra
This chakra is located at the upper abdomen, and affects our confidence and self-esteem. If you’re feeling particularly insecure, or are lacking self-confidence then you should work to balance the solar plexus. Try to revive your confidence issues, treat yourself well and try a little self-grooming, or perhaps visit a spa for an extra treat. Healing exercises include the boat pose in yoga, and plenty of dancing!
The Heart Chakra
The heart chakra can be found in the centre of the chest, just above the heart, it is responsible for our ability to love and for emotions such as love, joy and inner peace. If you have been through relationship issues, or have experienced loss or loneliness, then your heart chakra can become blocked. Healing the heart chakra takes time, it’s important you try to consciously spread love! Open up your heart to others, be grateful for all you have in life and try to help people. Your heart chakra will eventually open.
The Throat Chakra
As the name gives away, this chakra is located by the throat. It affects our ability to communicate. If your throat chakra is blocked, you may find it difficult to express yourself, and it is important for you to work on this! Talk to yourself, write a diary or start up a blog. By stimulating your ability to communicate, you can begin to heal your throat chakra.
The Third Eye Chakra
The third eye chakra is located at our forehead, between our eyes, and is sometimes known as the brow chakra. Intuition, imagination, concentration and memory are all affected by a blocked third eye chakra. If you’re struggling to see the bigger picture, have become forgetful, are struggling to concentrate or have been suffering from nightmares then you should work to clear your third eye chakra. Meditation is great for this! Whilst meditating, focus on the space between your eyebrows. In yoga, the child’s pose will also help. You should also try eye exercises and concentrating on something small, try not to overwork your concentration.
The Crown Chakra
Located at the very top of the head, the crown chakra represents our spiritual connection. A blocked crown chakra can lead to indecisiveness, and you may worry that your life has no purpose. In extreme cases, you might be suffering from depression. Meditation and cardiovascular exercise can help, and you need to do more of what brings you peace.
