Are you looking for a divination technique to help make sense of your life? Do you suffer from indecision and long for spiritual help to set you on the right path? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then learning to use a pendulum as a dowsing tool might just be what you need.
What is dowsing?
To put simply, dowsing is a type of divination used to obtain hidden information. The source of the information comes from the sub consciousness of a person, and is revealed through a dowsing instrument. Tools such as a pendulum or rod are popular amongst dowsers, and are often said to be conduits between the conscious and the subconscious. Dowsing requires the exercise of a human faculty that is beyond our five senses.
These come in various shapes, weights and sizes. Not surprisingly, dowsers often prefer to use a pendulum that is balanced and symmetrical. Many also keep the pendulum purely for their own use to avoid their instrument being tainted by the energy of others. When choosing a pendulum, the best thing to do is to let your intuition guide you – simply choose one that appeals to you and is comfortable to hold.
What you can ask
Pendulum reading will give you answers to yes or no questions. Before attempting to use the pendulum for the first time, it is a good idea to practice framing some questions into a yes or no format.
Sceptics have long criticised pendulum reading by saying that dowsers can simply move their hand to get the pendulum to swing in the direction they want. While a small movement of the hand could certainly be true, the principle behind pendulum reading is not about having a perfectly still hand. It is about your hand movements being guided by your subconscious rather your conscious mind.
How to practice pendulum reading
Begin by sitting comfortably with both feet on the ground about shoulder width apart. Next, hold the chord or chain of the pendulum using your thumb and forefinger, leaving a distance of about 2 to 3 inches from your fingers to the pendulum. Once you are ready, swing it to and away from your body, which marks the neutral position. Your pendulum should be in this search position when you ask a question.
Now, ask a question which you know has a ‘yes’ answer. You should notice a change to the pendulum’s movement into a clockwise rotational swing, which then settles into a right to left motion. If this is the case, you are using your pendulum correctly. If this doesn’t happen, then you need to keep practicing.
Once you have mastered the ‘yes’ answer, you should return the pendulum into a neutral position, then ask a question which you know has a ‘no’ answer. This time, you should notice movement in the opposite direction. Once you have both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers mastered, you are well on your way to developing a closer relationship between your intuition and your conscious mind.
