Heartbroken Friends: How to help a friend through a break up

Seeing your friend going through a painful break up isn’t something anybody likes to see. As a friend, you want to help and support them through those feelings of heartbreak.

Jillian Kramer from Glamour.com lists a few of the do’s and don’ts to remember when helping your best friend through a break up. Here are a few of our favourites…

Avoid the typical cliché’s – “there’s plenty more fish in the sea”, “you’ll find someone else…”  However true these might be, your friend isn’t ready to hear them or believe you just yet.

Do be there for your friend when she needs you, even if its 3’o’clock in the morning

Don’t say you know how she feels. You may think you’re being supportive, but in your friends eyes, you’re diminishing how she bad she really feels.

Do bring her all of her favourite treats. Ice cream, wine, whatever she needs…bring it!

Don’t try to set her up with someone new. She will do this when she’s ready!

Be there for your broken hearted friend through this difficult time, for more do’s and don’ts visit the Glamour blog.
